Lead Striking Instructor
Toby Imada is lead striking and MMA instructor at Eastside Austin Elite. He is an American mixed martial artist of Japanese and Mexican descent and has fought in many MMA organizations since 1998 including Bellator, King of the Cage, IFC, RFA, CFA, and Shootboxing. Imada is most notable for his upset win over Masvidal by way of bizarre inverse triangle choke while Masvidal was standing up and therefore has been acknowledged by many MMA mediums as Submission of the Year 2009. He was also awarded a Bazzie award from Inside MMA on HDNet for the unorthodox submission victory, and Submission of the Year Honors at the World MMA Awards.

Lead Grappling Instructor
Derrick Garza is lead grappling instructor at Eastside Austin Fitness. He has been involved with martial arts since childhood and joined the Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team in 2001. With an eye for technical details and the desire to connect to his students, he began assisting with class instruction almost immediately upon joining. Through his years in jiu-jitsu, he has instructed men, women, and children of all ages. He has helped to spread the art of jiu-jitsu to military personnel, law enforcement officers, and Border Patrol, as well as taught self-defense to women through Rape Prevention and Women’s Empowerment Seminars. He received the coveted black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in February 2012 from Aurelio Gallegos, Jr. and Ricardo “Franjinha” Miller.
BLACK BELT IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Brianna was born and raised in Texas and is currently completing her undergraduate degree at Texas State University. She has always been involved in sports and related activities from competitive cheerleading to track and field. In May 2011, she was introduced to CrossFit in San Marcos and has loved it ever since. Brianna successfully completed the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Course in August 2013. Bri believes CrossFit is more than just a place to workout….it’s a community that continually encourages everyone to challenge themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. Outside of the gym, Bri enjoys cooking, baking, hiking, time with family and friends, bacon, and anything involving the sunshine.
Justin Kerr is born and raised in Austin, TX and has successfully passed and completed the CF-L1 Course. His future goals with CrossFit are to gain more certifications in Gymnastics, Kids, and Olympic lifting. He was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 but didn’t start actively training CrossFit until June 2013. His first competition was Nasty Girls at a local event back in February 2013. Just like any other person exposed to CrossFit, he was exhausted and had the adrenaline feeling during and after the WOD. He also enjoys the community aspect that CrossFit brings to every box. He believes that anything is possible when you work hard for it. In pursuit of being an instructor, he enjoys helping others to be better with life. Things outside the gym, he likes to have active rest days by running, road biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding out about Town Lake.
Juan Gandara is currently a undergraduate at the University of Texas as well as an amateur MMA fighter. He hopes to improve his athletic ability and technique in order to begin competing at the professional level. His background in combative sports includes a combined six years of boxing, submission grappling and BJJ, and Folkstyle and Freestyle wrestling; as well as current instruction under our own Toby Imada, Jason Webster, Derrick Garza, and the rest of the EAE family. Juan enjoys teaching what he knows and helping the Eastside Austin Elite members reach their goals as they in turn help him reach his. When he’s not training or at school Juan spends his time hiking, rock climbing, long boarding, or playing in some catch soccer games at the park.
Lead CrossFit Instructor
Vince Barbosa is an Eastside Austin Elite CrossFit instructor. He is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and a nationally registered Paramedic. He is a prior USAF Pararescueman. While deployed he participated in a series of joint Operations, including direct assaults and combat search and rescue missions. His team also participated in disaster relief efforts and humanitarian missions Stateside. You can find him in the weight room or on the mat training jiu-jitsu as part of our competition team. Vince focuses on the positive to help our members improve their capability and have a good time!
USAF PARA RESCUE
Sean is Marine Corps veteran, Infantry Machine Gunner by trade but was also a Martial Arts Instructor . He is currently a student at Texas State Univ. studying Exercise and Sports Science (Pre Physical Therapy). Sean has a love for teaching and CrossFit allows him to make a change in people’s life that will have a lasting effect.
Tyler (Tai) Hawn
Kickboxing/Muay Thai Instructor and Personal Trainer
Tai Hawn is a Muay Thai Kickboxing Instructor/ Personal Trainer at Eastside Austin Elite. Tai was first introduced to Martial Arts at a young age, studying multiple forms of combatives from whomever he could learn from before being introduced to Muay Thai over 10 years ago through the East Coast Muay Thai Scene. He has his (CFT) certification as a Personal Trainer through International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) and formerly a (CPT) through the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). He has been teaching/ training people for just shy of a decade and throughout his career he has trained individuals ranging from Military/Law Enforcement Personal, Athletes, Muay Thai Competitors, Self-defense students, and men, women and children of all ages. He believes that the body and mind are always evolving and that the only limits that you have are the limits on which you set upon yourself. With this mindset he strives to be a guide, to help each of his students reach their beyond their potential.

Running and Fitness Personal Trainer
Ashley Rollins is a certified personal trainer at Eastside Austin Elite. Originally born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Ashley came down to Austin to escape the arctic winters and developed a deep love for running and fitness. She received her certification from WITS at the University of Texas in October 2015. Ashley has also been coaching marathoners since 2011 and uses her knowledge of endurance athletes to create functional fitness plans for all levels. Her love of education is boundless -- She is currently working towards several advanced certifications in nutrition and strength and conditioning.
Ashley was recognized in Austin Fit Magazine's "Best of" edition as one of Austin's Best Personal Trainers in 2016.
